Project Description
The Qatar Goodwood Festival 2022 has come and gone, as fans everywhere have witnessed yet another spectacular week of horse racing. This week, the RTA Publicity teams were out at the idyllic West Sussex racecourse installing branded signage and flags for the event.
Being one of the biggest highlights of the British flat racing season, the world famous five-day festival presents the perfect occasion for exhilarating racing, unrivalled style and a social occasion like no other.
A brief look back at the history of the Goodwood Festival
The event, also known as ‘Glorious Goodwood’, dates all the way back to 1802, only a year after the third Duke of Richmond held a private race for the officers of the Sussex Militia and members of the Goodwood Hunt.
Up until then, the officers’ private races had been held at Petworth Park, however this came to an end when the Earl of Egremont withdrew his invitation. It was then that the Duke of Richmond decided to hold the annual race on the “Harroway”, a narrow ridge on top of the South Downs.
The private meeting held in 1801 was so successful that it was decided to host a public race meeting the following year, to be held over three days. Fast forward to today, and the Qatar Goodwood Festival is still as popular as ever, being held over five-days.
And that’s how Glorious Goodwood came to be, becoming one of the UK’s horse major racing highlights!
“When Qatar took on sponsorship of the iconic Glorious Goodwood festival, it was decided such a special event needed the look and feel of real ceremony. That’s when the idea of the Goodwood Flag Project was born“. (Qatar Goodwood Festival project brief, RTA)
To this day, flags are of huge importance for the event, and RTA Publicity are proud to have played a role in this by producing the flags and sponsors’ signage for the Qatar Goodwood Festival 2022.
Where horse racing and fashion meet
Being a key event for the horse racing industry, year after year, the festival attracts the very best equine athletes from around the world. But the Qatar Goodwood Festival is so much more…
Fashion also plays a big role at the festival, as every year thousands of fashionistas flock to the West Sussex racecourse for Ladies’ Day. The traditional ‘Goodwood Look’ is the perfect emblem of casual chic, leaving racegoers spoilt for choice with their outfits. While ladies can dress to impress with a classic tea dress or a flowing maxi-skirt, gents can opt for a signature linen suit and Panama hat for a smart yet comfortable look!
Our work for the Qatar Goodwood Festival 2022
As every year, we had fun developing and producing branded items for the Goodwood Festival. RTA Publicity are in fact responsible for the flags and various sponsors’ branding throughout the week.
